Schools to Reopen on May 13th, Following Delay Due to Heavy Rains
By Emily Mbugua
May 8, 2024
President William Ruto has reversed course on school reopening, announcing a new start date of Monday, May 13th. This decision comes in light of improved weather forecasts, indicating a reduction in the heavy rains that had previously necessitated the postponement.
Schools were initially set for reopening on April 29, 2024. However, the date was pushed back to May 6th due to disruptions caused by the heavy rains. President Ruto then directed the Ministry of Education to postpone the reopening indefinitely on Friday of last week due to the flooding crisis.
To address the damage caused by the rains, President Ruto has also instructed that funds be made available through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) to support the reconstruction of school infrastructure.
